How to Maintain Your Quincy QT-10 Compressor in Extreme Temperatures
Whether you run your Quincy QT-10 compressor in scorching summer heat or freezing winter cold, extreme conditions require extra care. A few simple adjustments can help you avoid downtime and keep your compressor performing at its best all year long.
Hot Weather Tips
1. Use the Right Oil
High temperatures can cause oil to thin out and break down faster. We recommend using Quin-Cip-D (SAE 30, ISO 100), which provides excellent thermal stability and film strength even in extreme heat.
2. Improve Airflow and Ventilation
Ensure your compressor has enough clearance around it for airflow and is not near heat sources or enclosed in a tight space. Overheating can lead to oil breakdown and reduced part life.
3. Drain Moisture More Frequently
Hot, humid air means more condensate in the tank. Drain your receiver daily (or even multiple times a day) to avoid internal rust and water carryover into air lines.
Cold Weather Tips
1. Warm Up Before Heavy Loads
In cold conditions, oil thickens and doesn’t circulate well at startup. Let your QT-10 run unloaded for a few minutes before putting it under heavy load to ensure oil reaches all critical surfaces.
2. Prevent Condensate Freezing
Always drain tanks and lines after each use to prevent water from freezing and blocking valves or lines. Frozen condensate can cause severe damage if not addressed.
3. Store Indoors When Possible
If you can, keep your compressor in a heated or temperature-stable environment. Extreme cold can cause gaskets and seals to shrink or crack prematurely.
Stay Ready Year-Round
Proper seasonal maintenance not only extends your QT-10’s life but also protects your investment and prevents unplanned downtime. A few extra steps can keep your air supply reliable in any condition.
