Why Your Quincy QT-10 Compressor Isn’t Building Pressure
Your Quincy QT-10 is built to deliver strong, consistent air so when it isn’t building pressure properly, it can bring your whole shop to a halt. The good news? Most causes are well known and fixable if caught early.
Common Causes of Low Pressure
1. Worn Piston Rings
Over time, piston rings wear out and allow air to leak past the pistons instead of being compressed. This can cause longer fill times or lower maximum PSI.
2. Valve Plate Issues
The intake and discharge valves control airflow in and out of each cylinder. If they become stuck, carboned up, or damaged, your compressor may lose efficiency or fail to build pressure altogether.
3. Blown Head Gasket
A damaged head gasket can allow air to escape internally between stages or externally through leaks around the head. This often results in a sudden loss of pressure or oil residue near the pump head.
4. Air Leaks in Fittings or Lines
Even small leaks can lead to big pressure losses. Use soapy water to inspect fittings, hoses, and drain valves for bubbles when the system is pressurized.
5. Restricted Intake or Dirty Air Filter
A clogged air filter (part 110377E100) can choke your pump, reducing air intake and limiting output. Check and replace your air filter regularly to avoid this simple but common issue.
Don’t Ignore the Symptoms
Operating your QT-10 with unresolved low-pressure issues can lead to overheating, oil carryover, and further internal damage. Addressing these problems early saves money and extends pump life.
