[VIDEO: How to Change an Air Filter on a Kaeser Rotary Screw Compressor]

In this article, we will detail the steps for changing out an air filter on a Kaeser rotary screw compressor step by step. Our replacement Kaeser air filters are the first line of defense against foreign contaminants that can decrease the life of your air compressor and compressor oil.

Please note: Before beginning any air compressor maintenance, always make sure you have your personal protective equipment.

Let’s get started!

  • Make sure your area is free and clear from hazards.
  • Materials needed to change this particular air filter: gloves, screwdriver, a new air filter, and a lockout/tagout mechanism.

Lockout/Tagout

Lockout tagout is the first and most important part of safety protocol. Warning: Only a qualified technician should attempt to install or work on compressors.

During the lockout tagout process, when pulling the handle to the power box, use your right hand to pull the handle and and turn away to the left. This is to avoid a possible arc flash. Then check to make sure the panel is locked securely. The next safety step is to isolate the air system by turning the handle to the off position.

Try to power up the unit, making sure the unit is truly disconnected from power before continuing. Also, check the control panel to verify the power is disconnected.

Removing the Old Air Filter

Now that you have taken all safety precautions, it’s time to remove the old air filter.

  • Using the screwdriver, remove the four screws from the panel protecting the air filter.
  • Remove the panel and place it carefully on the ground.
  • Unscrew the wingnut holding the old air filter in place and remove the washer.
  • Remove the old air filter.

Installing the New Air Filter

  • Install the new air filter, making sure the threaded rod pokes through the end of the filter.
  • Add the washer over the threaded rod, and hand tighten the wingnut to secure the air filter in place and ensure a tight seal.
  • Reinstall the panel over the air filter compartment to complete the install.

Powering the Unit Back On

Now that you have your air filter replaced, we need to safely power the unit back up.

  • It is now safe to remove the lockout/tagout mechanism and, just like before, turn away as you power on the panel.
  • Finally, slowly turn the air supply valve to the on position.

Conclusion

You have now successfully changed your Kaeser's air filter. Thanks for following along! If you still need a service technician's help on this or any other industrial compressor, please give us a call!
