Oil Change Guide for Ingersoll Rand SS3 & SS5 Compressors
Regular oil changes are one of the easiest and most important ways to keep your Ingersoll Rand SS3 or SS5 air compressor running reliably. Clean oil helps protect critical moving parts, reduce heat, and extend your compressor’s life.
How Often Should You Change the Oil?
For most SS3 and SS5 units, Ingersoll Rand recommends changing the oil after the first 100 hours of operation, then every 500 hours or at least once a year after that — whichever comes first. Always adjust based on your operating environment and usage.
Step-by-Step Oil Change Process
1. Turn Off and Depressurize
Before you start, turn off the power and unplug the unit. Open the tank drain valve to release any built-up air pressure. Safety first.
2. Drain the Old Oil
Locate the oil drain plug at the base of the pump crankcase. Place a drain pan under the plug, remove it, and allow all oil to drain completely. Reinstall the drain plug securely when finished.
3. Refill with All Season Select Synthetic Lubricant
Remove the oil fill plug or breather. Pour in All Season Select synthetic lubricant slowly, checking the sight glass (or dipstick if equipped) as you go. Fill to the center of the sight glass — do not overfill.
4. Reinstall Fill Plug and Clean Up
Secure the fill plug, wipe away any drips, and dispose of used oil properly according to local regulations.
