Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Position Summary
At Air Compressor Services (ACS), we’re a lean, high-growth team of 70 building something big. We are actively bringing critical manufacturing capabilities in-house—moving fast to design, prototype, and produce our own parts directly from our Upstate facility.
We don't do corporate busywork or place interns on the sidelines. In this role, you will work directly alongside our Head of Engineering to build, test, and scale our internal production infrastructure from the ground up. If you want to see your CAD designs turn into real, physical products on the shop floor within days, this is your playground.
What You'll Be Building & Doing:
- In-House Manufacturing & Tooling: Get hands-on with new equipment—from setting up and optimizing advanced CNC gasket cutting machinery to producing custom discharge tubes, specialized filter pads, and custom production fixtures.
- Rapid Prototyping & 3D Printing: Design, print, and iterate custom tools, jigs, and functional components to solve immediate service and production bottlenecks.
- Reverse Engineering: Tear down, measure, and digitize mechanical components and systems to generate precise 3D CAD models and production drawings.
- Process Design & DFM: Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Lean principles to optimize assembly workflows, streamline material movement, and build scalable production lines.
- Data & System Optimization: Track key product metrics, create technical reference guides, and establish standard operating procedures for new manufacturing workflows.
Who You Are:
- SolidWorks Power User: You live in 3D CAD, understand assembly constraints, and love creating clean models (CSWP/CSWE certification is a major plus).
- Hands-On Builder: You prefer being in the shop tweaking a machine or testing a prototype over sitting at a desk all day.
- Proactive Problem Solver: You don't wait for a step-by-step instruction manual—you see an inefficient process or a broken part and start figuring out how to make it better.
- Background: Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (nearing completion of studies). Participation in ASME/MakerSpace/SAE is a plus.
